#169: How to Create Thriving Health in 2024

Happy New Year! Let’s chat about how you can create thriving health in 2024.

I’m not talking about new years resolutions or starting the year with a juice cleanse. I’m talking about being intentional with your health goals, so you can feel your best and get back to living a life you love and doing all the things you want to do!

This episode is a practical one – I’d recommend sitting down with a journal or the notes app in your phone so you can jot down any notes as you go, and you can pause as you go along to give yourself time to really reflect and plan for the year ahead.

Enjoy – and here’s to your best year yet!

Reflection Questions:

Let’s start by reflecting on 2023

  • What worked really well for you health-wise in 2023? Eg. maybe you got into a really good routine with walking every day, or you started seeing a psychologist or nutritionist or you improved your diet

  • What didn’t work for you? Eg. maybe you were super stressed at work all year, or you didn’t prioritise sleep as much as you’d like

Now we’re going to look at how you’re feeling right now, in this moment

  • How are your energy levels right now?

  • How did you sleep last night?

  • Are you moving your body today?

  • How’s your digestion - are you experiencing any digestive symptoms? Did you have a bowel movement today?

  • What did you have for breaky, and what are you eating for the rest of the day?

  • Have you been drinking plenty of water?

Zooming in on one day can help us get really honest with ourselves – often when we look at the big picture we can forget about the details and parts that maybe weren’t so good, so this is really helpful

Let’s look forward to the year ahead

  • Where would you like to be by the end of the year health-wise?

  • Where would you like to be in 5 years time health-wise? (Reminder: we overestimate what we can do in a year, and underestimate what we can do in 5 or 10 years.)

Next, let’s plan for 2024

  • Knowing everything you know – about your health for the past year, how you feel today, and your goals – are you in a growth phase or a maintenance phase?

  • Start by brain dumping a list of all of the things you’d like to focus on or do differently in 2024. Cnce you’ve done that, choose just 1-3 to focus on. We also want to make them super actionable. Reframe those 1-3 focus points into something specific that you could actually tick off and achieve, whether it’s a one-time thing, a weekly habit or a daily one.

Finally, get set up with a system to make your goals a reality

  • Decide how you will keep track of your actions – you might print out a calendar and stick it on your wall and tick off each day you do your action steps. Or if you’re more of a digital person, you can use Google calendar or an app like Habit Tracker.

  • Choose a reward to help motivate you – this could be something small at the end of each week or month to help you to keep on track and moving forward. Maybe at the end of the week you take yourself out for coffee, or at the end of the month you book yourself a massage.
